More Ion Age Beotan Werewolves

I made an order from Alternative Armies a few months ago and realised that I still had my old "Ion Age" points saved up.  I really liked the Beotan werewolves I got last year, so I used the points to add a few more.

More werewolves!

2 of the wolves were duplicates (1st & 3rd from left above), but the other 3 were new poses.  All were painted in the same colour scheme as the original 5.  To start with, I added a further heavy weapon trooper.  I particularly liked this pose, it reminds me of my favourite Space Marine heavy weapon trooper from the 1989 Citadel catalogue.

Heavy weapon support.

Rear view.

When I was at University in Nottingham in the late 1990's I paid a visit to GW to get a few figures specially cast and this HW trooper was one of them.  He got equipped with a Heavy Bolter as part of my devastator squad.

Favourite heavy weapon marine.

Another Maia machine pistol adds to the rank and file troops.  He's a suitable aggressive looking beast.

Fierce creature.

*Snaaaarl!*

The commander has a nifty visor and a nice cloak to matk out his importance to enemy snipers.  I thought that a blue cloak would contrast well with the paler, earthier colours of the fur and harness.

Commander.

Given the rough appearance of the cloak, rather than keeping it crisp and clean, I used a bit of earthy colour around the bottom edge.

Nice cloak!

This gives me a pack of 10 werewolves, a wider choice for Rogue Stars but also enough for a pack of ferals in 5 Parsecs from home.  They'll also be useful as extra tough troops for Tomorrow's War.

10 werewolves.

New models for Rogue Stars - Part 1: Werewolves... in spaaaaace!

Back at the end of 2020 I decided to get a few extra character models in preparation for Rogue Stars.  They'll also be handy in various other games such as Tomorrow's War, Black Ops and others.  I got a few humans but mainly concentrated on non-humans, something I'm a little short of.

First up we have a few Alternative Armies Beotan werewolves.  I love the fact that you can order individual models from their packs to get the exact mix you want.  I didn't need a whole set, just 5 specific models.

Wolf pack on the prowl...

I've used a warmer colour scheme than that on the AA web site, mainly Vallejo Game Colour.  Beastly Brown was used as the base coat for the fur and the harnesses are Khaki. Hands, muzzles and ears are dwarf flesh, this was dabbed on quite roughly because the later stages help to bring it all together.  Claws and teeth are bonewhite. After a sepia/matt varnish wash over the whole model, the fur was drybrushed with cold grey, then a stonewall grey highlight. The harnesses were highlighted with the base khaki, claws & teeth with bonewhite, then a dead white tip. Weapons are GW chainmail with a black ink wash.

First up we have the team leader with his Cupid pistol, HUD monocle and communications gear. He come from the 4th Tesseran Command squad.  Something I've been thinking I should learn to do is the "gem" style of painting on lenses etc.  I tried it on the eyepiece and for a first attempt, I'm reasonably pleased how it came out.

Next, we have a couple of wolves armed with Maia machine pistols from the 2nd Tesseran.  They have great expressions!

This next wolf is a snarling loader from the 3rd Tesseran Support pack and carries a Juno rifle plus an ammo box.  He'll be useful as a medic, courier or the like.

Finally we have their support, an Apollo ADS armed wolf, also from the 3rd Tesseran.  Rogue Stars doesn't actually have rules for bigger weapons like this so I'll only be using this on TW or other larger-scale games.

Werewolves

IAs well as the zombie horde, I've also finished the Rebel Minis werewolves that I based and undercoated at the same time.

All received a base coat of Vallejo beastly brown and a wash of Vallejo sepia ink.  I decided that wasn't dark enough so I added a further wash of black ink too.  They were all drybrushed beastly brown to start, then the one on the left (female) received extra GW vermin fur drybrushing, the centre one (male) Vallejo stonewall grey and the female on the right a very light drybrush of Humbrol 94 desert yellow.

Detail is good, although I do think there might be a hint of goat about the male's face as well as wolf!

They're nice figures though, and I'd recommend them.  Oddly my order from Rebel included only 3 werewolves (there should have been 6 according to the web site), but I received extra modern military contractor figures that offset that defecit so I wasn't to worried.

I think a few Blue Moon werewolves from Old Glory UK might be a good addition.
