Combat Droids repaint

 It's a few years since I posted my painted Combat Droids printed from files by Dutchmogul.

 I repainted them because I wasn't happy - they were quite dark, and the difference between the green armour and the silver workings didn't look quite right.

The new colour scheme is a sandy yellow with sepia wash, then green speedpaint camo patches.  Most of the silver mechanical parts are left from the previous paint job.  The detail shows up much better now.

 

 

GZG droids

Some more droids from GZG, pack SQ15-V16 Humanoid Bots.  I've gone for the standard gold protocol droid type colour scheme on the first two servant robots.  The photograph hasn't come out particularly well, they do look a lot golder in person!  I've used a dark brown base coat rather than black so that the contrast isn't so stark.

The big cargo handler droid has an industrial type yellow colour scheme.  I assume you'd want it to be easy to see when it's walking around carrying large objects.

I'll be painting the duplicates in more varied colours, in particular I was thinking white/pink on the middle one for a Futurama style Fem-bot!

Maintenance Droid

This large maintenance droid is typical of those used on frontier worlds.  Its robust construction is resistant to knocks and scrapes and the walking motive configuration handles a range of different terrain with ease.  Flexible manipulator arms enable it to perform surprisingly delicate maintenance work and a built in power source provides a handy plug-in point for power tools and other equipment.  You can't always rely on an established power grid on the younger colony worlds!

This particular droid is in use on the planet Hope in the Virtue star system..  Terraforming is still in progress on Hope.  Although the atmosphere is now breathable, it has not yet reached the level where strenuous work is possible without help from a breath mask.  Here you see the droid alongside a terraforming technician with his oxygen mask.

With a human for scale...

I'm sure most of you will have recognised the Star Wars power droid I used as the basis for this model!  I cleaned up the flash and mould lines before drilling a couple of holes in the front and adding the guitar string manipulator arms.  The base was trimmed down and it was re-mounted on the same size base as my other larger figures (eg. armoured fighting suits and weapons teams).

The tech is from GZG's pack SG15-V04 Techs and Crew.  He's had a head swap from SG15-XH2 conversion heads pack B.

Not much to say about the painting - after a good layer of white undercoat, the droid is GW sunburst yellow with a Vallejo sepia wash.  Tech is Humbrol 24 matt blue with a Vallejo black wash, then drybrushed with base colour and highlighted with base colour + white.  Stonewall grey for the belt and tool bag.

Cargo Droid

This cargo loading droid has been sitting in my "works in progress" box for months, just waiting a few finishing touches. Here it is in action in the cargo bay.


I'm sure you recognise its origins! I found a couple reduced in Tesco one day and thought they'd come in handy.


A coat of light grey with a black ink wash, bare metal parts are blacl with a burtn umber/burnt sienna ryst patter applied, then drybtushed WG chainmail.


Laura (the wife) says that he still looks to cartooney - it's the droopy eyes that do it!


All the same, it'll make a good bit of cover for a shoot-out at the starport. I might make a few alterations to the other one.

Robots!

Grumpy the colonist has a couple of new robots to make life easier round the scrapyard. He has a small astromech style droid for general maintenance work, plus a much larger heavy work robot for waste processing and loading. He found this latter droid at a reduced price (£1) on a recent trip to the planet "Tesco", and he will soon be repainting it to try and make its origins a little less obvious!
