My 3D printer was packed away for several months while buildings work
has been going on at home. I finally managed to get it out of the box
and back into action at the start of October. The weather was pretty warm for most of the month, so it was possible to run it in the
garage. Cold weather can be a problem. It causes the resin to thicken,
which prevents it flowing back under the build plate, resulting in print
failures. With the sunny weather, I was able to make 2 or even 3 print runs most days, and much of my first few batches were pieces of 15mm sci-fi scenery purchased from EC3D Design. Evan Carothers produces a huge range of scenery, available in very inexpensive packs which are excellent value for money.
The bunk room. |
All my tiny little soldiers, aliens and colonists need a chance to rest. These bunk beds from EC3D will be an excellent place to catch 40 winks before the next adventure.
Bunks. |
Bunk detail. |
I adopted a very simple colour scheme. White undercoat, very thin black ink wash (1 part ink, 2 parts matt varnish, 3 parts water), GW "Gore Grunta Fur" (i.e. brown) contrast paint for the mattresses. Some chipping effects were applied using a tiny scrap of sponge and some silver paint. These bunks look very utilitarian, and they probably get a lot of wear and not much care and attention.
Bunks and lockers. |
While you're sleeping, you need somewhere to keep your stuff. Handily,
the pack also includes lockers, plus some useful canteen-style tables
and seats ready for breakfast after you wake up. I'll take a closer look at the lockers next time.
