Fuel Dump

A couple of months ago I bought some bits from the junk box in a local model railway shop, including lots of fencing, a couple of storage tanks and assorted station accessories (benches etc.).

I've finally got around to using one of the storage tanks as part of a small fuel dump...

Base if a 10x10cm MDF base, painted with MDF primer. I paint the big sheet of MDF with primer on both sides, as this seals the surface, avoiding dust and preventing the board from warping when I add texture/paint. The fuel tank is one of the model railway items (used to be from a dairy tanker wagon?), bund wall from cork floor tiles, corrugated metal from a mushroom punnet.
The gantry is made from mesh offcuts from a bird feeder, shaped using a pair of pliers.

  1. That's very clever! If you want to run some surface pipes from the tank, you could use the plastic ink tubes from pens, very thin drinking straws or plastic rod.

  2. Was planning to have some pipes running from the end of the tank to the little box on the right (in fact I put the box on top of a scrap of foamcore to give it enough height). Hadn't thought of using an old ballpoint pen tube - that'll work much better than the drinking straw I had in mind.
    Thanks for the tip!
